On behalf of the participant, I hereby irrevocably and unconditionally agree to all of the terms of this Agreement. Complete AND Upload rides to Strava by NO LATER THAN 3:00pm November 30th, 2020
General Event Rules:
PLEASE RIDE SAFELY. We’re NOT looking for the overall fastest course times - frankly we don’t care. We don’t have courses cordoned off and marshalled by race volunteers. There’s no caution tape or neon course arrows. There’s no event SAG or aid station. There’s just you, your bike, and your trusty GPS device. Oh yeah, and that pocket full of common sense you always carry around with you!
Speaking of common sense, we do not want to see folks doing stupid things on their bikes. Obey traffic laws and don’t go blowing through intersections or crossing double yellow lines to pass someone. Don’t rip down crowded trails or needlessly endanger folks on foot or horseback. Let’s all be outstanding citizens of the cycling community.
What we ARE looking for is how fast you can rip through some specific Strava Segments we've picked. And although we know we don’t have to say this, we will anyway: Only attempt a KOM or QOM on a segment IF you can be absolutely sure that you can do so safely.
DO NOT ENDANGER YOURSELF OR OTHERS. At all times you must follow ALL cycling etiquette rules & rules of the road. Failure to do so could lead to disqualification from future Cycling Formula events. It could also get you labeled as a total douche-bag! Don’t be that person.
At the end of the day this is really just a fun excuse to ride our bikes (at socially safe distances) a little bit harder than we normally do. But we’re all going to agree to do so SAFELY, RESPECTFULLY, and ALWAYS IN CONTROL.
We thank you all for participating. We hope you stay safe and have fun. Now Let's Ride!

**If it’s not on Strava it didn’t happen. Seriously though that’s actually the case here. In order to be eligible for results it must be on Strava and showing up in the stage segment leaderboards.
Leaderboards and GC / Click Here for current leaderboard (11/20/20)
Stage results and GC will be calculated (by The Cycling Formula) using the Strava Segments listed for each series. (*Note: We all know that Strava may not always record your time during a segment - and we have no control over that. You’ll simply need to re-ride the course if you absolutely want credit for a particular segment that may have been missed. Riders can re-do their stage if desired as long as they are 1) within the race window of November 2020 AND 2) they re-ride the ENTIRE course.
Leaderboards for the The Dirt Riders Challenge: We will make every attempt to publish leaderboards on Friday and the final stage winners and overall GC for men’s, women’s and X categories will be announced the week of Nov 29th.

All participants will also qualify for 10% OFF Coaching Services for 4 months from The Cycling Formula. Click Here to Learn More about our customized Coaching Services.
*NOTE: All NEHSCA youth athletes, regardless of participation in the Dirt Riders Challenge, qualify for 15% OFF coaching services from The Cycling Formula. Learn more about Youth Coaching services here or drop us an email to ask any questions - Services@thecyclingformula.com

Comprised of Two Stages: Carolina Hills and Duxbury
*Note: Riders may ride stages in ANY order.

STAGE 1: Carolina Hills
Marshfield MA
Difficulty:
Moderate / Intermediate
Overview:
This ten-mile loop covers some of the more popular sections of Carolina Hills. While mountain biking is inherently a dangerous sport, Carolina Hills is generally regarded as an area for newer riders as well as more veteran riders to enjoy an outing together. Overall, a fun place to go fast and let it rip a little in the flowy sections. *Please Note: Be absolutely careful both times you cross route 3A. Use an over-abundance of caution!

STAGE 2: Duxbury
Duxbury MA
Difficulty:
Moderate / Intermediate
Overview:
This nine-mile loop covers some of the best trails on the north-side of the Duxbury Trail Network. Its quintessential New England mountain biking with lots of rocks, roots, punchy short climbs, and plenty of tight turns to whip your bike through. Though entertaining for intermediate and advanced riders it’s still manageable enough for newer riders. Success in this event will come from punching through the climbs & recovering on the descents as well as accelerating out of every turn (and mind you, there are a LOT of turns).

STAGE 1: Borderland State Park
Easton, MA
Difficulty:
Intermediate / Advanced
Overview:
This roughly ten-mile loop covers some of the more technical sections of Borderland. Segments are typically longer and are a mix of climbs as well as descents. It should also be noted that many of the segments are back-to-back with little to no break in between. Finding a means to manage that will be key to your success in this event. This not an easy course!

STAGE 2: Ames Nowell State Park
Abington, MA
Difficulty:
Intermediate / Advanced+
Overview:
Perhaps one of the most technical areas to ride in the South Shore area, once mastered Ames Nowell can be one of the most fun. This course covers roughly ten-miles of everything the park has to offer, from gnarly rocks and crazy root sections to sketchy bridges & full water crossings. The park certainly packs a lot into a tiny place. And know this; You will get lost. You will go off course. You will have a hard day on the bike. And despite all of that, you will love every minute of it. Success in this event will ultimately come down to those that ride steady and in control. Rip when you can, survive the rest…

Rules & Regulations:
1. Fee. There is a $15 registration fee per Category entered. (Register separately for each Category IF you wish to race both). It takes time and effort to plan, organize, and manage an event like this. Your nominal registration fee helps cover our costs AND lights a little fire under your butt to commit. Registration also qualifies you for GC (“General Classification”) status and gets you listed in our official post-event results.
Please Register at https://www.TheCyclingFormula.com/DIY
2. Charity. All Proceeds from registration will go towards supporting the Wompatuck Warriors and the Easton Bobcats youth mountain bike teams of NEHSCA.
3. Join Strava Club. You must join The Dirt Riders Challenge Strava Club to qualify for official event participation and recognition. Request to join - and if you've registered you'll be granted access: https://www.strava.com/clubs/DirtRidersChallenge
4. Riding with friends. We have to say it; it’s ok to ride with your friends - but PLEASE do so safely. Try to keep groups to five riders or less. It’s feasible to maintain social distancing in that size of a group. It’s also feasible to maintain social distancing guidelines if you come upon a similarly sized group on the road or trail. Keep some sort of face covering with you at all times and put it on if maintaining social distancing becomes difficult OR if you stop to interact with another group. Let’s practice “social distancing” and not “social avoidance”.
5. Ride SAFELY. Practice ALL rules of cycling courtesy & etiquette while riding, as well as the legal rules of the road in your community.
DO NOT endanger yourself or others. RESPECT everyone else on the road or trail - especially non-riders. Groups of cyclists must always yield to groups of walkers or hikers. Pursuit of your Strava KOM / QOM does NOT take precedence over the safety and well-being over other’s enjoying the outdoors. Re-read this rule again.
6. Strava Segments. We absolutely DO NOT care about overall course times. THIS IS NOT A RACE. If you feel the need for some speed, however, please do so ONLY in Official Strava Segments within each route.
Strava Segments will NOT be marked on courses. You need to use your GPS device or phone for that. Please note that accessing the “Live” Strava Segments feature requires a Strava Premium account to do so.
Here’s an overview “Live” Strava Segments (https://tinyurl.com/y46fhxgm ).
Here’s a list of compatible devices that allow “Live” Strava Segments (https://tinyurl.com/y6a4vghs ).
Here’s how to access “Live” Strava Segments on a Garmin device (https://tinyurl.com/yyzf6dde).
Here’s how to access them on a Wahoo device (https://tinyurl.com/y47bp5p3 ).
There will be no podium. There will be no medals. There will be no super cool prize to commemorate your glorious triumph over your buddy Steve. There will, however, be the official Regional DIY Stage Series newsletter & Instagram giving bragging rights to each & every Strava segment winner as of 3:00 pm Wednesday, September 30, 2020. Overall GC (“General Classification”) leaders will also be announced each week in September, leading up to final GC winners being named at the end of the event.
7. Completion of Stages. You may complete the stages in any order and within any amount of time AS LONG AS it is within the month of November. You must also have all completed activities and uploaded them to your Strava account by November 30th at 3:00pm EST.
8. Close of event. The event closes at 3:00 pm Monday, November 30, 2020. You must have completed AND uploaded your activity to Strava by NO LATER THAN 3:00 pm Monday, November 30, 2020 to qualify for the official annals of Regional DIY Stage Series glory. Otherwise, it was just a really good ride.
Again, ride SAFELY. Only attempt a KOM / QOM on a segment IF you can absolutely assure you can do so safely. DO NOT ENDANGER YOURSELF OR OTHERS. Follow all cycling rules and etiquette at all times. Failure to do so could lead to disqualification from future Cycling Formula events. Don’t be “that” person. Please represent the cycling community in the best way possible AT ALL TIMES.
9. None of this is perfect. Now we’ve tried our best to verify that all routes and segments are as dialed-in as possible. But let’s be honest, there may be a small inconsistency here or there, or a timing snafu we didn’t foresee. In the end, however, we’re doing our damnedest to see that this thing is 1) Safe, 2) Fun, and 3) as Easy to navigate & ride as we possibly can.
As we said to begin with, the Regional DIY Stage Series is what you make of it. So give it a go and see where you can take it.
