One heck of a workout!
Back in 2011 a couple friends went off the beaten trail of the Ironman Lake Placid bike loop and ventured onto the roads less traveled. Having discovered these amazing Adirondack roads, an unofficial gathering of friends began heading out from the Lake Placid Brew Pub every year on the Saturday before IMLP. Fast forward to 2019 and this informal gathering has evolved into the annual Lake Placid Smashfest.
The 2019 LP Smashfest will be benefiting their charity partner,Smile Train. Smile Train is an international children’s charity with a sustainable approach to a single, solvable problem: cleft lip and palate. Millions of children in developing countries with untreated clefts live in isolation, but more importantly, have difficulty eating, breathing and speaking. Cleft repair surgery is simple, and the transformation is immediate. Smiles Train's sustainable model provides training, funding, and resources to empower local doctors in 85+ developing countries to provide 100%-free cleft repair surgery and comprehensive cleft care in their own communities.
Riders in this year's edition of Smashfest will be treated to a gorgeous route that really shows off the beauty of the summer time Adirondacks. The course will be fully marked, offer an on-course aid station, for all participants, and even have a Strava KOM/QOM segment for those riders looking to get the competitive juices flowing. All riders will receive a customized t-shirt and five raffle tickets for post-ride festivities.
Can't make the ride, but would still like to contribute? You can purchase a T-Shirt or make a donation and the proceeds will still benefit Smile Train.
